4 PhD positions in multimessenger astrophysics starting in the Academic Year 2023/2024.

We invite expressions of interest to join the group of multi-messenger astrophysics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata (Italy). The group research primarily focuses on gravitational wave transients and other explosive stellar phenomena, such as gamma-ray bursts and kilonovae. The successful candidates will pursue research at the forefront of time-domain and multi-messenger astrophysics, and will have the opportunity to join international research collaborations, working with data from state-of-the-art observatories such as the James Webb Telescope and the forthcoming Einstein Probe.

The PhD positions are for three years starting in Fall 2023. They are available in the framework of the project “Black Hole Interactions And Neutron stars Collisions Across the universe – BHianca” funded by the European Research Council under Consolidator Grant 101002761. Computing resources and support for travelling (e.g. summer schools, international conferences) are warranted.

Requirements: Eligible candidates should have a Master’s degree in physics or astrophysics (by the start date of the position), fluent English communication (written and oral), a good background in high-energy astrophysics and/or extragalactic astronomy, and solid knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Python, C++). Previous experience with astronomical data analysis is of advantage but not a prerequisite.
